Legal Counsel

As Legal Counsel for SD Worx you will become part of a dynamic, multinational legal team. You will be working closely with the other legal counsels based in Belgium and beyond to support the SD Worx business on a wide scope of work, with a focus on commercial, contract and IT law. You will also partner with internal and external stakeholders to help implement strategic projects across the group. This allows you to have an impact on the growing business of SD Worx.

The Corporate Legal department of the SD Worx group, a worldwide Payroll and HR services provider with headquarters in Belgium, is seeking a full-time in-house legal counsel (company lawyer).

You will report to a Legal Team Lead and will work closely with the other legal counsels in Belgium and beyond to provide proactive and practical legal support and advise the business of the SD Worx group on a wide range of legal questions, with a focus on commercial law, contract law and IT law.

The current corporate legal team works from Belgium (HQ), Germany, Sweden and United Kingdom and consists of 11 legal counsels.

Which key responsibilities will you have?

• Provide legal assistance to internal clients, by advising on risks, ad-hoc questions and supporting in projects.
• Give accurate, proactive and pragmatic legal advice to internal clients in a timely and efficient manner.
• Create and update legal templates and best practices in line with corporate guidelines.
• Review and negotiate a wide range of customer agreements, supplier agreements and partnership agreements.
• Provide legal support for the effective handling and successful resolution of disputes.
• Ensure compliance with national and European law through monitoring, interpreting and advising on current and new relevant legislation and case law.
• Actively contribute to the communication and implementation of the legal policies, templates, guidelines and processes and to the establishment of training material and training in this regard.
• Actively contribute to the development and delivery of the SD Worx strategic, business and operational plans.
• Actively contribute to the SD Worx’ Corporate Legal team’s objectives.
• Actively contribute to the continuous improvement of the legal department.
• Actively contribute to the establishing the corporate legal department of the future, including the digitalization of the legal department.
• Support the selection of and manage cooperation with external advisors/experts.

What do you need for this role?

• a masters degree in law 
• 1-3 years’ experience as an attorney and/or as an in-house legal counsel with a focus on 1 or more of the following areas of law: contract, commercial, ICT.
• Effective communication skills in French and English (orally and in writing).
• High-level analytical skills and an eye for detail when needed.
• Excellent organizational skills that allow you to plan and prioritize your tasks and projects.
• A passion for commercial and legal negotiations.
• Be business oriented with the ability to turn legal complexity into pragmatic advice that is understandable for people without a legal background.
• Hands-on and can-do mentality with the ability to find creative solutions.
• Be a team player, yet able to work autonomously.
• The ability to develop strong working relationships with a range of internal and external stakeholders.
• Enjoy working in a growing, changing, agile and complex environment.
• Be self-confident: dare to speak up in meetings, pointing out legal risks to business, escalating risks to higher level if needed, able to push back minor topics to be able to prioritize important matters.
• High level of integrity, professionalism, intellectual curiosity and eagerness to learn and grow.
• Be tech savvy.
• Be open to occasionally travel within Europe.
