Information Architect

The Information Architect provides positive user experience by planning and designing the information structure for business processes & supporting software applications. This position focuses on the target audience & their business processes, the technologies used to create the supporting software applications, and the actual information flowing through them. 
The Information Architect ensures the structural design of shared information environments in order to bring harmony between users, systems, business processes, and information; resulting in an intuitive and positive user experience. This requires art and science: organizing and labelling information, achieving symbiosis between users and their context, business processes, software applications, usability, findability, maintainability, and scalability. The information architect brings structure in complexity and chaos, resulting in intuitiveness, simplicity and predictability.

 

In order to achieve this, It requires understanding of users and their context, seeing the big picture but also focussing on relevant details, bridging the gap between users and the technical aspects. 
The information architect will need to have a mastery over a wide range of programs and thinking styles. He/She is a strong communicator and is able to genuinely understand and build bridges between end users, senior leadership, technical engineers, and all other involved audiences. She is not an expert in one specific domain, but has a wide scale of skills ranging from leadership, social and communication skill, up to technical skills.

Job Duties

 

  • Identifies user requirements by researching and analysing user needs, preferences, objectives, and working methods; studying how users consume content, including data categorization and labelling; meeting with focus groups.
  • Plans information architecture by studying, understanding the system landscape, business and functional architecture, strategy, and target audience; envisioning architectural scheme, information structure and features, functionality, and user-interface design; creating user scenarios; preparing data models; designing information structure, work-and dataflow, and navigation; evaluating information representation; conducting creative meetings.
  • Organizes information by translating user behaviour into information structure and elements; crafting interactive experiences; producing workflow diagrams, user scenarios, flowcharts, and storyboards; preparing interaction specifications, navigation rules, organization of information, coordinating with business, technology, visual, structural, editorial, cognitive, and brand strategy.
  • Implements information architecture by providing and directing upon the necessary elements required for successful adoption of the information architecture. 
  • Validates, in collaboration with colleagues, with the users that the available information and usage of it fits the needs.
